Poland SIM cards versus travel eSIMs — and why the eSIM usually wins here

If your SIM is European, you are already done

Poland is in the EU. A SIM issued anywhere in the EU or EEA works here at home rates under roam-like-at-home, subject to your plan's fair-use roaming allowance. That covers a large share of the people who visit Kraków for a weekend, and for them the correct spend is zero.

Everything below is for arrivals from outside the EU and EEA — the UK since Brexit-era roaming charges returned at several operators, plus North America, Asia and Australia.

Poland is cheap, and the numbers show it

Airalo's Polish prices were read from its site on 13 August 2026 and Nomad's on 17 August 2026; both are among the lowest we hold anywhere. The Saily row was read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026.

Airalo wins Poland from 5GB upward, and it does so on verified pricing — as, now, does Nomad, which is level with it at 20 GB and behind everywhere else. At 3GB the comparison is a trade rather than a win: Airalo's $6 buys seven days where Nomad's $9 buys thirty, and Airalo's $8.50 buys 5GB for a month for less than Nomad's 3GB. Saily is no longer cheapest on the 1GB entry plan — its verified price is $4.49 against Airalo's $4.00 — but it is much closer than we used to say higher up, with a 10GB month at $12.99 against Airalo's $12.00.

Holafly's unlimited runs $20.50 for five days and $36.50 for ten. Against a verified 20GB month at the same $19 from either Airalo or Nomad, that is a hard sell in a country where data is this cheap, and Holafly's unlimited plans have no hotspot.

The local SIM costs $8 and a passport

A Polish prepaid SIM is around $8, and registration requires a passport. Orange, Play, T-Mobile and Plus all have stores in the Warsaw and Kraków city centres, so buying is straightforward once you are in town.

It is less straightforward at the airport. Warsaw Chopin has no dedicated SIM shop — you buy from Relay convenience stores or newsstands, which is fine but limits what you can ask for. Kraków's arrivals have Orange and T-Mobile outlets.

So the local option is $8 plus a passport check plus finding the right shop, against $12 for 10GB delivered to your phone before you leave home. Unless you want a Polish number, the eSIM is the better trade — this is one of the countries where the local SIM does not win on price, and we would rather say so than pretend it is close.

Which network you land on

Poland's average speed on our figures is 52 Mbps, and LTE covers 99.85% of the population — coverage is not really the problem here that it is in Norway or New Zealand.

Orange Polska is the largest operator with the widest 4G reach including rural areas, and is the one to want for a road trip. T-Mobile has the widest 5G deployment. Play often tops speed tests in the big cities. Airalo sells its Polish eSIM under a product name of its own, Lekko — that is Airalo's branding, not a network, and Airalo does not publish which Polish carrier it roams onto. Nor do Saily, Nomad or Holafly; the carriers this page once credited to Holafly's own listing came from our data rather than from Holafly.

The genuine gaps are all in the wild parts: the Bieszczady Mountains in the remote south-east, some forested areas of the Mazury lake district, remote Beskidy mountain trails and parts of the Kashubian highlands. Anyone doing Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk and Wrocław will never see a dead spot.
