Czech eSIMs, and the rare airport worth buying at

The EU rule first

The Czech Republic is in the European Union. If your number is from anywhere in the EU or EEA, roam-like-at-home applies and your existing allowance works in Prague at no extra cost, limited only by the fair-use cap your own operator sets for roaming.

Prague draws a very large share of its visitors from Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Italy and the rest of the bloc, so for most people arriving this is where the decision ends. Everything below is for numbers issued outside the EEA.

The one airport counter we would not tell you to walk past

Our standard advice is that airport SIM counters are a bad deal — a captive audience, a queue and a markup. The Czech Republic is a genuine exception, for two reasons that stack.

The first is that no ID is required. Czech prepaid SIMs activate without passport registration, which removes the form-filling and the staffed-desk dependency that make arrival-day buying awkward in Slovenia or Belgium. The second is that Vodafone, the strongest network here for tourists, sells a tourist-specific data SIM product at Prague Airport. That is not a generic top-up card sold by a newsagent — it is the operator's own travel product, sold on site.

A local SIM runs around $12. What we cannot tell you is how much data that includes, because we do not hold allowance figures for the Czech tourist SIM. That is a real gap and we would rather say so than invent a number. It means we cannot put the airport SIM on a per-gigabyte footing against the eSIMs below, and you should ask what the allowance is before handing over the money.

What we can say is that the friction argument, which is what usually kills the local SIM option, mostly does not apply here.

Airalo sets the floor, and the ladder runs further than the shortlist suggests

The Airalo and Nomad columns are both checked; Nomad's Czech prices were read off its own site on 17 August 2026. The Saily numbers were read off Saily's own checkout on 18 August 2026, and every one came in far below what we used to publish — the 1 GB week at $1.99 rather than $3.99, the 10 GB month at $14.99 rather than $19.99. Only the Holafly numbers on this page have since been verified, so confirm those at the point of sale. An earlier version of this page carried the wrong figures for two of Nomad's rows. Its 20 GB is $20, which beats Airalo's $24 by more than we said. Its 10 GB is $16, a dollar above Airalo's $15 rather than level with it. On checked prices Nomad is the cheapest here at 20 GB and nowhere else.

Two observations the plan table cannot make for you.

The first is that the Czech market does not stop at 20 GB, which is where the shortlists usually end. Airalo's Prosím tier sells 50 GB for 30 days at $36, and at $0.72 a gigabyte that is the cheapest rate in the Czech data by a distance — nothing else here gets below $0.90. Nomad sells 50 GB too, at $45, so there are two doors rather than the one this page previously described. Airalo's is $9 cheaper for the same allowance.

The second is the 5 GB row, which is better value than it looks. Nomad does sell 5 GB — an earlier version of this page said it did not — but at $12.50 it is half as much again as Airalo's $8, and Saily undercuts both at $7.99. Airalo's $8 is a checked price at $1.60 a gigabyte — well under the $3.00 of the 30-day 3 GB plans above it, and only ten cents a gigabyte off the 10 GB rate. Going from 5 GB to 10 GB costs $7 more and buys five more gigabytes; it is worth it if you will use them, but 5 GB is no longer the trap size here.

Airalo sells two Czech packages, and one of them is named after an operator

Alongside Prosím, Airalo lists a package badged O2. It appears at one size only: 10 GB for 30 days, at $16 against Prosím's $15.

Treat that badge as a product name and nothing more. O2 is a real Czech operator, which makes the label easy to read as a host-network disclosure, but Airalo does not publish host networks and nothing in our data ties this package to O2's towers. We hold the name and the price. We cannot tell you what the extra dollar buys.

Holafly's unlimited runs $11.90 for three days, $20.50 for five, $27.50 for seven, $36.50 for ten, $50.50 for fifteen and $73.90 for thirty — $3.97 a day at the short end, $2.46 at the long. This page previously listed a 25-day plan at $68.90; Holafly sells no 25-day plan anywhere. Airalo's Prosím unlimited is $19.50 for five days, $27 for seven and $34 for ten, so the two trade places depending on length. Against a checked $15 for 10 GB across a full month, unlimited is a hard sell on a Prague city break either way.

Vodafone nationally, O2 in Prague, and the drive south

The network picture here is more differentiated than in most of Central Europe, and the split is geographic rather than a straight ranking.

Vodafone leads on 5G coverage nationwide at over 93%, which is why it is the network we would pick for a trip that leaves the capital. O2 has the best 5G speed in Prague specifically — a narrower advantage, but a real one if your time is spent inside the city. T-Mobile is strongest on budget plans domestically. All three run strong 4G nationwide and 5G is expanding quickly, with Prague and Brno the best served.

Where this actually bites is the trip south. Prague and Brno are dense and well covered by everyone. Český Krumlov is a three-hour drive through southern Bohemia, on roads where you will be navigating rather than following a metro map, and the day trips people combine it with — Hluboká, the Šumava foothills, the road down towards the Austrian border — are rural in a way Prague is not.

This is also where the data runs out. Airalo publishes no host network for the Czech Republic, and neither do Saily or Nomad, so on three of the four ladders here you cannot tell whose towers you are buying — and the O2-badged package is a product name, not an answer. An earlier version of this page said Nomad's listing named Vodafone and T-Mobile; that was wrong, and Nomad names no carrier here or anywhere. The same goes for Holafly: the T-Mobile and Vodafone pairing this page used to credit to its listing came from our own data, and reading Holafly's own pages showed it names no carrier for the Czech Republic or for any country. So all four ladders are blank, and no listing here will tell you whose towers you get on the drive south.

What we would do

EU or EEA number: nothing.

A city break in Prague, or Prague and Brno, three to five days: Airalo's Prosím 3 GB for seven days at $5. The cities are dense, the public transport apps are light, and hotel wifi will absorb the evenings. If the seven-day window is tight, the 5 GB for 30 days at $8 is the safer buy and still the cheapest checked price at that size.

If you are a heavier user: Airalo's 10 GB for 30 days at $15, which is $1.50 a gigabyte. Nomad's 10 GB is $16, not the $15 this page previously gave it, so Airalo is a dollar cheaper rather than level. Airalo's own O2-badged version of that bundle also costs a dollar more, for reasons we cannot document.

A week or more, or anything involving a car and Český Krumlov: Nomad's 20 GB at $20. We previously sent you to Airalo's $24 here, on the grounds that Nomad's price was unverified — and our figure for it, $22, was wrong as well. Nomad's Czech prices are now checked and the real number is $20, which makes it the better buy at that size by $4.

Genuinely heavy use, or a long stay: Airalo's 50 GB at $36. At $0.72 a gigabyte it is the lowest rate in the Czech data. Nomad sells 50 GB as well, at $45, but it is the dearer of the two.

Landing without a plan: unusually, this is fine. No ID is required, Vodafone sells a tourist data SIM at Prague Airport, and it costs around $12. Ask what the allowance is before you buy — that is the one thing we cannot look up for you.
