What we hold, including the bit that contradicts itself

Our record for Tampere-Pirkkala contains two incompatible statements. One line refers to SIM kiosks in the arrivals hall with a two-minute queue. Another says plainly that there is no SIM counter at Tampere Airport, and that you should buy at an R-kioski in Tampere city or pre-install an eSIM before travelling.

The second is specific and actionable; the first reads like a template. We are going with the second, and flagging the disagreement rather than hiding it. Assume TMP has nothing to sell you, and be pleasantly surprised if it does.

A passport is required to register a Finnish prepaid SIM wherever you buy it. Free wi-fi runs through the terminal, which covers a message and a map on the way into town.

For most arrivals, none of this matters

Finland is in the EU. If your phone is on an EU or EEA home plan, you roam here at your domestic rates. There is nothing to buy, nothing to register and no kiosk to find. Tampere takes a good deal of European budget traffic, so this is the correct answer for a large share of the people landing here.

If you are arriving from outside that bloc, you have two workable routes and one that is not: an R-kioski in Tampere city, an eSIM installed before you fly, or a wasted lap of the arrivals hall.

The numbers

A Finnish local SIM runs about $12 from an airport seller nationally. In town it is a normal retail purchase with a passport check. Installed before departure:

Finland's ladder runs to 50 GB, and that top plan is the cheapest per gigabyte at $0.72. It is also almost certainly the wrong plan for Tampere. This is a city-break and business airport rather than a gateway to somewhere remote — Tampere itself is well covered with no notable dead zones, so 3 GB or 5 GB will cover a normal stay and the per-gigabyte arithmetic is beside the point at that size. What we do not hold

We have no opening hours, no shop names and no terminal-level detail for TMP, and we hold no queue time we would stand behind. We also do not know which R-kioski branches in Tampere city stock SIMs or when they open.
