Buying a SIM card at Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT)

A newsagent counter, not an operator store

Gothenburg Landvetter's SIM options in arrivals are Lycamobile and Pressbyrån. That second name is the one that tells you what kind of purchase this is: Pressbyrån is a convenience chain, not a mobile operator, and a till that also sells coffee and newspapers is not somewhere you compare tariffs.

Our record describes the choice at Landvetter as limited, and that is the honest summary. There is no Telia, Tele2 or Telenor shop in arrivals, no eSIM sold on site, and no second operator to price against.

We do not hold the location of either outlet within the terminal, nor their opening hours. Landvetter is not a large airport, so finding them is unlikely to be the hard part — being there while they are open might be.

Eight minutes, plus paperwork

Waits run about 8 minutes at peak and around 3 minutes off-peak. That is quick, and it is not what should decide this for you.

The paperwork is settled, and it is a passport. Swedish prepaid SIMs have to be registered against ID, a requirement in force since August 2022, and the Landvetter record says so plainly. Our country record used to say no ID was needed; that line was stale boilerplate and we have corrected it. Carry your passport to the counter.

Free wi-fi runs across the terminal, so you can activate an eSIM, check the bus into Gothenburg, or book a car without buying anything at all.

Most people landing here need nothing

Sweden is in the EU. Arriving from any EU or EEA country on your usual SIM, roam-like-at-home applies: your normal data allowance works at your normal price, no purchase involved. Landvetter's traffic skews heavily European, so this is the right answer for most of the arrivals hall. Check your operator's fair-use roaming cap and walk past both counters.

What Swedish data costs, if you do need it

A Swedish prepaid SIM runs about $10 at airport prices. Against that, here is where the eSIM market actually sits — and note that Sweden's ladder does not stop at 20GB, which is where the value turns.

The 50GB tier is the cheapest data in Sweden per gigabyte, at roughly half the rate of the 10GB plans. Airalo's $42 was read from its own site on 13 August 2026, and Nomad's prices have since been read at source too. An earlier version of this page said Nomad's row was cheaper again; that figure had never been checked and it was wrong. Nomad charges $45 for the same size, so Airalo holds the floor.

For a weekend in Gothenburg, a small plan is fine and the arithmetic barely matters. For anything longer, or a trip that continues north, buy the large one; the per-gigabyte gap is the largest single saving available on this page.

Networks, and why it matters outside the cities

Holafly lists no carrier for Sweden. The Telia, Tele2 and Telenor trio this page used to show against it came from our own data rather than from the seller. Airalo, Saily, Nomad and Holafly publish no host network for Sweden at all — Airalo's Swedish product is sold under the retail name Vän, which is a label rather than a carrier, and should not be read as one.

So for every eSIM here, you are buying data without knowing whose towers carry it. Around Gothenburg that is a small risk. If you are driving into rural Västergötland or heading much further north, a physical SIM from a named Swedish operator is the only way to control that variable — and Lycamobile at the airport does not give you that either, since we hold nothing on which network it rides.
