Casablanca Airport SIM cards: the counter usually wins

What is in arrivals

Two operators sell at Mohammed V: Maroc Telecom and Orange Morocco. Having a choice at the airport is unusual and useful, because it means you can pick a network rather than accept whatever the single desk carries.

The queue is the longest of the Moroccan airports we cover: fifteen minutes at peak, five off-peak. Registration is the reason. Morocco requires a passport to register a SIM, so every sale involves documents being copied and details entered, and the queue moves at the speed of that paperwork rather than the speed of a card payment.

A SIM at a Moroccan airport costs about $12 in our data. We do not hold the allowance that buys, and we do not hold opening hours for either counter — which matters at an airport that takes overnight arrivals. Free wifi runs through the terminal.

Why we would join the queue here

Most of our airport pages end with "buy before you fly". Morocco is the one in this set where we would not say that automatically, because the travel eSIM market for Morocco is genuinely expensive.

The best verified rate in the whole country is $0.90 a gigabyte, from Nomad's 50 GB month at $45. That is level with Switzerland and a shade above Greece's $0.84, and it makes Morocco the cheapest verified market in Africa. An earlier version of this page put the floor at $2.10 and called Morocco expensive; that was Airalo's best rate, published while Nomad's Moroccan prices sat in our data unchecked.

Against that, a $12 local SIM has to carry only about 6 GB to beat the best eSIM rate available. That is not a demanding bar for a Moroccan tourist pack. We cannot tell you what allowance the counter will offer on the day — we do not hold it — but the arithmetic strongly favours asking, and the fifteen minutes is a fair price for finding out.

The honest counter-argument is timing. Passport registration takes as long as it takes, the counters may be closed on a late arrival, and if you land at 02:00 for an early onward connection you will get nothing. In that case buy a small eSIM before you fly and treat it as insurance rather than as your trip's data plan.

Morocco does not stop at 20 GB

This site previously told readers nobody sells above 10 GB in Morocco. That was wrong, and it matters, because the largest plan is usually the best value.

An earlier version of this page said the ceiling was 20 GB. It is 50 GB — Nomad sells one, and it is the best rate in the country. Prices are per plan in US dollars with the duration attached; Airalo's rows were read from its own store on 13 August 2026 and Nomad's from its own on 17 August 2026, and the rest are indicative listings we have not confirmed.

The top row is Nomad's 50 GB over 30 days at $45, which is $0.90 a gigabyte and the cheapest data in Africa. Airalo's 20 GB over 15 days at $42 works out at $2.10, which was the floor this page used to quote. As usual the largest plan is the best rate — the 3 GB over 7 days at $16 works out at more than $5 a gigabyte — so if you are buying an eSIM at all, buying small is the expensive way to do it. No eSIM here runs on Maroc Telecom as far as we know

This is worth stating plainly, because our own earlier copy said otherwise. We do not hold a confirmed host network for any provider in Morocco, and nothing supports the claim that the travel eSIMs give you Maroc Telecom access.

Airalo publishes no host network at all. Choukran is the name its Moroccan plans are sold under — a product name, not a carrier, and buying it tells you nothing about whose towers you will use.

eSIMCard does publish host carriers on its country pages, confirmed on its Japanese one, but we have not read its page for this country and hold no network for it here. Nomad, Airalo, Saily and Holafly name no host network for Morocco at all — earlier versions of this page said Nomad named Orange Morocco and credited the Maroc Telecom and Orange pair to Saily and Holafly, and none of that came from the sellers. If you specifically want Maroc Telecom — and for travel south and east of the cities, network choice is a real question — the way to get it is the Maroc Telecom desk in arrivals, passport in hand.
