Comparing Danish SIM cards and travel eSIMs

If your SIM is European, stop here

Denmark is in the EU. An EU or EEA SIM roams here at home rates under roam-like-at-home, so your existing allowance works and buying anything is money thrown away. Check your operator's fair-use cap, and if it covers your trip, you are done.

One Danish wrinkle before you close the tab: the Faroe Islands and Greenland are part of the Kingdom of Denmark but sit outside the EU, and they run separate networks. We hold no plans, prices or coverage data for either, and a plan sold as "Denmark" should not be assumed to work there. If your itinerary includes them, ask the provider directly rather than trusting the country label.

The local SIM: about $13, and your passport

Four networks carry the country — TDC / YouSee, Telia Denmark, Telenor Denmark and 3 Denmark. A tourist SIM at the airport runs about $13, and Denmark requires passport or ID registration for a prepaid line, so there is a form and a document check between you and a working phone.

From the original research, which we have kept where it was legible: at Copenhagen Airport, SIMs are sold in WHSmith and 7-Eleven in Terminals 2 and 3, and from vending machines; in the cities, carrier stores stock them, and Lebara and Lycamobile packs start at 99 DKK, roughly $14.

What nobody has recorded is what those packs contain. We do not hold the data allowance on the roughly $13 airport SIM or on the 99 DKK packs, so there is no honest per-gigabyte figure to set against the eSIM table below. Ask before you pay. It is a 20-second question that decides the whole comparison.

What the eSIMs cost

Airalo's Danish prices were read from its own site on 13 August 2026, and it sells the country under the package name Teledansk. Nomad's were read from its own site on 17 August 2026. The Saily rows were read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026; only the Holafly rows are indicative.

The market does not stop where small-plan comparisons usually leave it. Airalo's verified 50GB over 30 days is $35.00 — 70 cents a gigabyte, against $4.00 for the single-gigabyte plan at the top of the table. Same provider, same country, and a sixfold difference in the rate.

An earlier version of this page said Nomad undercut the verified rows at every size it sells, and billed its 50GB month as the cheapest data in the Danish table at 58 cents a gigabyte. It said to treat that as a lead rather than a quote, because nobody had read it off Nomad's checkout. Somebody has now, and the figure was $16 too low. At $45.00 it is the dearest 50GB in Denmark rather than the cheapest.

The corrected comparison is more interesting than the old one. Nomad wins 20GB by $7.50 and 10GB by $1.50; Airalo wins 5GB by $1.50 and 50GB by $10. Both columns are now checked figures, so the gaps are real rather than provisional.

One quirk worth pocketing. Airalo's verified 10GB plan costs $17.50 with either a 15-day or a 30-day window — the same money for twice the time. If you are buying that size, there is no reason to take the shorter one.

Networks: less certainty than the old page implied

Telia leads on 5G speed and availability in Denmark, TDC has the longest-established rural footprint as the former state operator, and the shared TT-Network towers give the widest combined reach. Those are facts about Danish operators.

Which of them your eSIM attaches to is a different question, and a weaker one. No seller publishes it. Airalo, Saily, Nomad and Holafly name no host network for Denmark at all — Airalo and Holafly publish none for any country, and the three Danish operators this page once attributed to Holafly's own listing came from our older data. So if a specific network matters to you, the local SIM is the only route that guarantees it, passport and all.

Coverage is barely an issue for tourists here. The known soft spots are some remote beach areas on Bornholm and brief gaps on minor roads in deepest rural Jutland.
