Billund Airport (BLL): SIMs come from the 7-Eleven, not a carrier desk

What is in arrivals

Billund's SIM sales go through a 7-Eleven kiosk, not a carrier counter. Our source records that multiple brands are stocked but does not name them, and we are not going to fill that gap by guessing — so what you can expect is a convenience-store shelf, not a choice of network operators with staff to advise you.

The wait is about five minutes at peak and two off-peak. Bring your passport: Denmark requires a passport or national ID to register a prepaid SIM, and that applies at a kiosk exactly as it would at a carrier desk.

Free WiFi covers the terminal, which is enough to buy and install an eSIM in the arrivals hall if you would rather not queue at all.

The Legoland question

Billund is the arrival airport for Legoland, so a large share of the people reading this are families landing with several phones and a hire car booked for a week in Jutland. Two things follow.

First, most of you should buy nothing. Denmark is in the EU, so roam-like-at-home applies and every EU or EEA SIM in the family works here on its domestic allowance at domestic prices. German, Dutch, Norwegian and Swedish arrivals — the bulk of Billund's traffic — are already connected before they reach the car park. UK families should check their own operator, because British networks took different positions on EU roaming after Brexit and several reintroduced charges.

Second, if you are coming from outside the EEA, count devices before you count gigabytes. Four phones on a road trip is four plans unless you can share one connection, and no provider we can price for Denmark publishes its tethering policy — so do not assume one big plan will cover the family until you have checked the terms of the one you are buying.

What data costs here

A prepaid starter pack at a Danish airport typically runs around $13. Against that:

For a week of navigation, park queues and children's video, the small plans are a trap: 3 GB for $8 works out at $2.67 a gigabyte against $0.70 at the top of the ladder. Nomad lists 10 GB over 30 days at $16 and 20 GB at $20, both now read off Nomad's own site — the 20 GB is $7.50 under Airalo's. An earlier version of this page badly understated Nomad's 50 GB; that figure had never been checked. At $45 it is $10 more than Airalo's.

If your usage is genuinely unpredictable, Denmark has unlimited: Airalo's verified unlimited is $19.50 for five days and $35 for ten, and Holafly's indicative unlimited is $18.90 for five days and $27.90 for ten.

On networks, nobody publishes anything. Holafly's own listing names no carrier — the TDC, Telia and Telenor trio this page used to carry came from our own data rather than from the seller — and Airalo, Saily and Nomad name none either, so nobody can tell you whose coverage you will be using on the drive across Jutland.
