Two operators, and one of the shorter queues in Europe

Ljubljana's arrivals hall has counters for A1 Slovenija and Telekom Slovenije. Telemach, the third national operator, is not on our record as selling at the airport.

The queue runs 8 minutes at peak and 3 off-peak. That is quick for a country that registers every SIM against ID — Slovenia requires a passport at purchase, and Ljubljana still moves faster than Brussels at 15 minutes or Varna at 12. A small airport with a modest arrivals bank is doing most of that work.

"Reasonable hours" is not an opening time

Our record says the counters are open reasonable hours. That is the phrase, and it is all we have.

We are not going to convert it into times. It could mean anything from a nine-to-five desk to something that covers the last inbound flight, and the difference decides whether a late arrival can buy at all. If you are landing in the evening, treat the counters as a maybe and have a fallback.

Our country record puts a typical Slovenian airport SIM at about $12, in line with Belgium and below Serbia's $14.

If you fly in from the EU, spend nothing

Slovenia is in the EU. An EU or EEA plan roams here at domestic rates, so for most arrivals the counters are simply not a decision that needs making. Check your fair-use data cap before you fly and that is the end of it.

That covers a lot of people at an airport whose traffic is heavily intra-European. What follows is for arrivals from outside the zone — the UK, North America, Asia — and for EU travellers who expect to exceed their allowance.

Prices, and one comparison worth making

These were read from the provider's own Slovenian checkout on 13 August 2026, in US dollars.

The cheapest verified gigabyte in Slovenia is $0.84, on the 50 GB plan over 30 days. That is dearer than Bulgaria and the Czech Republic at $0.72 and Belgium at $0.65, and cheaper than Serbia at $0.98 — Slovenia sits in the middle of the region rather than at either end.

Here is the comparison worth making before you buy. Airalo's verified unlimited plan for 15 days is $45.00, against $42.00 for 50 GB over 30 days. For a fortnight in the mountains those two prices are close enough that the choice is about how you use data rather than how much you pay: unlimited if you are streaming or hotspotting without counting, the metered plan if you want the longer validity and 50 GB is more than you will get through.

Coverage in the mountains, and what nobody will tell you

Most people landing at Ljubljana are not staying in Ljubljana. Bled, the Julian Alps, the Soča valley and the Karst are the reasons for the flight, and mountain terrain is where coverage between networks stops being interchangeable.

We cannot help you choose. Airalo, Saily and Nomad publish nothing about host networks in any country — an earlier version of this page said Saily and Nomad both named A1 and Telekom in their Slovenian listings, and those entries were errors in our data. Holafly names none either — the A1, Telekom and Telemach trio this page used to credit to it came from the same place, our own data rather than the seller's listing.

So if the network genuinely matters for where you are going, the counters in arrivals are the only place you know what you are buying, because you are buying from the operator. That is worth eight minutes and a passport. If you are staying in the city and the valleys, it is not.

The short version

EU arrival: buy nothing, check your data cap. Outside the EU: install an eSIM before you fly, because it is cheaper per gigabyte than the counter and does not depend on what "reasonable hours" turns out to mean.
