El Nido town has Smart and Globe. The island-hopping tours that people come for are effectively offline for six to eight hours — your guides have no signal either. No plan you buy changes that.

Two places, and they are not alike
El Nido splits cleanly into the town and the water, and the connectivity story is completely different in each.
In El Nido proper, both Smart and Globe are available. It works like a small Philippine town: you can message, book, order a boat, upload photos. Nothing about the town requires special planning.
On the tours, there is nothing. Tour A (Big Lagoon, Small Lagoon, Secret Beach), Tour B (Shimizu Island), Tour C (Secret Lagoon) and Tour D (Cadlao Lagoon) are essentially completely offline for the whole six to eight hours. This is the most extreme offline destination in the Philippines that we cover, and it is not a marginal drop in bars — it is absence.
The detail that settles it: your guides do not have signal either. They navigate by local knowledge. There is no version of this where a better plan, a better provider or a bigger data allowance buys you a connection, because there is no network out there to connect to.
What to do before you board
Since the outage is certain, treat it as a fixed part of the day rather than a risk to manage.
Download offline maps covering the tour area before you leave town. Save your resort's GPS coordinates locally rather than as a link. Pre-book any restaurant or activity for that evening and download the confirmation, because you will not be able to retrieve it from the boat.
That is the whole list. Once it is done, the six hours offline are one of the better days you will have in the Philippines rather than a problem.
What you are actually paying for
Given the above, the useful framing for El Nido is that you are buying data for the town, not for the trip. That argues for a smaller plan than you might otherwise pick.

The ladder does run to 50 GB, and at $0.96 per gigabyte that is the cheapest data we hold for the Philippines — worth knowing if El Nido is one stop on a long trip. For a few days here on their own, the small end is the sensible end. Airalo's verified unlimited tiers are $11.50 for three days, $18.50 for five and $27 for a week, which are poor value if you spend two of those days on a boat.

Network and buying
We cannot say which carrier any eSIM will use here, which matters more in Palawan than in a city. Airalo does not publish a host network for the Philippines. Saily, Nomad and Holafly publish none either, and the Smart and Globe names our data once carried against eSIMCard's rows came from this site's own text. Airalo's Philippine product is sold as Alpas Mobile, a product name rather than a network.
If being on a specific carrier matters to you, buy that carrier's SIM in person. A local SIM costs around $5 at the airport and registration requires a passport or ID, as it does everywhere in the Philippines. We hold no El Nido shop names or addresses and are not going to guess.

Yes. Both Smart and Globe are available in El Nido proper, so messaging, bookings and uploads all work while you are in town. The gap is on the water, not on land.
