Data on Boracay: what works, and where it stops

Coverage is better than the island reputation suggests

Boracay is small, flat and built almost entirely around tourism, and its mobile coverage reflects that rather than its geography. Smart 5G reaches most of the island.

White Beach, the four-kilometre stretch where most visitors sleep and eat, has good signal along its whole length. Bulabog Beach on the east coast — the kitesurfing side — is also fine. The one part worth flagging is Puka Shell Beach at the northern end, which is wilder and less built up, and where signal is reduced.

That is a short list of caveats for an island. If your day runs between your hotel, the beach and a restaurant, Boracay behaves like a well-covered small town and nothing on this page needs to change your plans.

The real gap is offshore

Boracay's headline activities — island-hopping, helmet diving, parasailing — are near-shore, and signal over the water is variable rather than reliable. That is where people get caught out: not walking around town, but sitting on a boat with a return transfer they cannot look up.

So before you leave the beach for the day, download your return transfer booking and your accommodation details to the phone rather than trusting you can pull them up later. It costs nothing and removes the only connectivity problem Boracay reliably produces.

Grab works on the island in tricycle mode, so app-based transport is available and does depend on having data in hand.

What it costs

There is no Boracay pricing. Every plan here is a Philippines plan and works the same in Manila. These Airalo prices were read off Airalo's own site on 13 August 2026:

The ladder runs all the way to 50 GB, and that top step is the cheapest data per gigabyte we hold for the Philippines — about a quarter of the 1 GB rate. Most people on a week in Boracay will not need 50 GB, but it is worth knowing the ladder does not stop at 20 GB, because plenty of pages say it does.

Airalo also sells unlimited by duration: $11.50 for three days, $18.50 for five, $27 for a week, $34.50 for ten days, $48 for 15 and $71 for 30. Those are verified too.

Saily's 1 GB over 7 days at $3.99 was read off its own site on 18 August 2026.

Nobody tells you which network you get

This matters more on an island than in a city, because the difference between a carrier that covers Puka Shell Beach and one that does not is real. Unfortunately we cannot help you choose on that basis.

Airalo does not publish a host network for the Philippines at all. eSIMCard, Saily, Nomad and Holafly each list Smart or Globe in their own materials, but nobody has read those off the providers' own sites and we have not confirmed any of them. Airalo's Philippine product is sold as Alpas Mobile at checkout — that is a retail name, not a carrier.

If you specifically want to be on Smart, the only certain route is a Smart SIM bought in person.

Buying on the island

A local SIM runs about $5 at the airport and needs a passport or ID for registration, which is the rule everywhere in the Philippines. We hold no Boracay-specific retail detail — no shop names, no locations — so we are not going to guess at where the counters are.

The practical answer for a short beach trip is to arrive with an eSIM already installed. It is not much more expensive, it works the moment you land, and it saves you hunting for a shop on your first afternoon. More on the market on our Philippines hub.
