Oslo Gardermoen (OSL): the only SIM kiosk is on the wrong side

The problem with buying at OSL

Oslo Gardermoen has one SIM retailer, Lycamobile, and its kiosk is in the departure area. That is the single fact worth carrying off this page: it is not readily reachable when you land without leaving the arrivals route to go and find it.

So the queue figures — about ten minutes at peak, three off-peak — describe a wait you have to go out of your way to join. Bring your passport if you do: Norway registers prepaid SIMs, and the ID check is most of what makes the queue.

Lycamobile is not one of Norway's three network operators, which are Telenor, Telia and Ice. We hold no data on which of them it resells, so buying at OSL means not knowing whose coverage you have bought.

Free WiFi covers the airport. If you land unconnected, that is a faster route to data than walking to departures.

Norway is in the EEA — check this before anything else

Norway is not in the European Union, but it is in the European Economic Area, and roam-like-at-home applies across the EEA. An EU or EEA SIM works in Norway on your domestic allowance at domestic prices, with nothing to buy and nothing to install.

That covers the bulk of OSL's traffic: German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Polish, Spanish and Icelandic SIMs all roam here as at home. If that is you, ignore the rest of this page.

UK travellers should check their own operator, because British networks took different positions on EU roaming after Brexit and several reintroduced charges, and Norway's EEA status does not change what your own contract says. Arrivals from North America, Asia and elsewhere outside the EEA are the group that actually needs to buy.

What data costs in Norway

A prepaid starter pack at a Norwegian airport typically runs about $18. Here is the eSIM ladder against it:

Norway has a reputation as an expensive country and data is one of the places it isn't: $36 for 50 GB over 30 days is $0.72 a gigabyte, in line with the Netherlands and only a little above Denmark. The expensive way to buy here is in small pieces — a single gigabyte for $4 is more than five times the rate of the top plan. Nomad's listings, read off its own site on 17 August 2026, run 10 GB over 30 days at $16 and 20 GB at $20 — both under Airalo — while its 50 GB is $45, or $9 above Airalo's. An earlier version of this page gave Nomad's 50 GB as $29 rather than $45, and called it cheaper on paper; that figure was wrong.

If your usage is unpredictable, Airalo's verified unlimited runs $11.50 for three days, $27 for seven and $69 for 30. Holafly's unlimited is verified: $20.50 for five days, $36.50 for ten, $73.90 for 30.

Holafly's own listing names no host network. The Telenor and Telia pairing this page used to show against it — with Ice on one plan — came from our own data rather than from Holafly. Airalo, Saily and Nomad publish no host network for Norway either, which matters more here than in flatter countries: if you are heading north or into the fjords, you cannot choose your coverage in advance because you cannot find out what it will be.

The verdict

On an EU or EEA SIM, do nothing. Otherwise install an eSIM before you fly — it is live when you land, it costs less per gigabyte than the counter, and it saves you a walk to the departures level with your passport out.
