Nothing to buy at the airport

There are no SIM counters at Bergen Flesland. Our source also carries a generic queue estimate, which cannot describe a counter that does not exist, so we are leaving that number where we found it.

Look around arrivals anyway when you land — small-airport retail changes, and a convenience unit may stock starter packs even without a branded desk. But do not build a plan on it.

Free WiFi covers the terminal. If you arrive without data, buying an eSIM in the arrivals hall is faster than anything else available to you here. Buses and taxis run into Bergen, where the Norwegian operators — Telenor, Telia and Ice — retail properly. Take your passport: Norway registers prepaid SIMs, so any physical purchase includes an ID check.

First, check whether you need anything

Norway is outside the European Union but inside the European Economic Area, and roam-like-at-home applies across the EEA. An EU or EEA SIM works here on your domestic allowance at domestic prices. Bergen's inbound traffic is heavily European and Nordic, so for a large share of arrivals the answer is that the missing counter costs you nothing.

UK travellers need to check their own operator rather than the rules — British networks took different positions on EU roaming after Brexit and several reintroduced charges. Arrivals from outside the EEA are the ones with a genuine problem to solve, and they should solve it before boarding.

Why this airport is the one to prepare for

Bergen is the gateway to the western fjords, and coverage out there can be intermittent. That turns a missing SIM counter from an inconvenience into a real gap: you land at the airport with the least to sell you, then drive or sail into the part of Norway with the least reliable signal.

It is made worse by what nobody publishes. Airalo, Saily and Nomad name no host network for Norway, so you cannot pick a plan for its fjord coverage — you cannot find out whose network you would be picking. Holafly's own listing names nothing either — the Telenor and Telia pairing this page used to carry against it, with Ice on one plan, came from our own data rather than from the seller. Choosing a travel eSIM on coverage grounds is not something the available information supports.

The practical response is the unglamorous one: download offline maps and any ferry or hiking route you need before you leave Bergen, and buy more data than you think you need, because re-routing on a mountain road burns through an allowance faster than a city trip does.

What it costs

A starter pack at a Norwegian airport typically runs about $18 — not that you can buy one here.

The Airalo prices were read from Airalo's own site on 13 August 2026 and the Nomad price from Nomad's on 17 August 2026; Lofotel is Airalo's product name for Norway, not a network. The Saily row was read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026. An earlier version of this page said Nomad showed 50 GB over 30 days at $29; that was wrong — Nomad's 50 GB is $45, which is $9 more than Airalo's.

For a fjord trip the 20 GB and 50 GB plans are the sensible end of the ladder, at $1.00 to $1.28 and $0.72 a gigabyte against $3.99 for a single gigabyte at the bottom. If you would rather not ration at all, Airalo's verified unlimited runs $18.50 for five days and $27 for seven.
