Data in Brno: the easiest Czech city to get connected in

Nothing here needs special handling

Most city pages exist because the city differs from the country around it. Brno mostly does not, and where it does, it differs upward. It is the Czech Republic's second city, a student and tech hub, and the network infrastructure reflects that industry base. It is less crowded than Prague and just as well connected.

So the short version: buy whatever plan suits your trip nationally, and it will work fine in Brno. There is no Brno-specific problem to solve.

The speed numbers

Brno sits marginally above the national 4G average, and its 5G ceiling is high enough that you will notice it if your phone supports the bands. Vodafone or T-Mobile are the strongest carriers in the city; nationally, Vodafone leads on 5G footprint with over 93% coverage.

Signal is strong across the places visitors actually go. The Špilberk Castle area and the historic centre are both excellent. There are no dead zones notable enough to plan around — a sentence we cannot write about most cities, and one that makes Brno unusually low-maintenance.

Do not wait for the airport

Brno Airport (BRQ) has limited SIM options. If you are flying in directly, do not arrive assuming you can sort your data at the terminal. Buy in the city instead: T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone all have stores in the Brno centre.

Better still, activate an eSIM before you fly and skip the question. Most travellers reach Brno from Prague anyway, and a national plan bought once covers both cities.

A local prepaid SIM costs about $12 at a Czech airport, with no ID required for an instant purchase. That is a fine deal if you want a physical SIM, but note that you would be buying it in Prague, not Brno.

What a Prague-and-Brno trip actually needs

An earlier version of this page gave that plan as $15 and put it on Vodafone or T-Mobile — the price was wrong, and Nomad publishes no host network here or anywhere. Czech data is cheap by European standards. The gap between the 5GB and 10GB Airalo plans is $7, so if you are genuinely unsure how much you will use, buying one tier up costs less than running out and topping up does.

Two dates that change the city

Brno hosts the Grand Prix motorcycle race in August, which brings significant crowds, and the Brno International Engineering Fair in October. Both fill the city and put load on the network in the areas around the venues. Neither breaks anything, but if you are visiting during either, expect the usual big-event congestion and book accommodation well ahead.
