Mobile data in Prague: the no-ID city

The one thing Prague really does differently

Czech prepaid SIMs are sold without an identity check. Our data records the rule as no ID required, instant purchase, and that is unusual in this part of Europe — Germany, Austria and Belgium all want a passport before a SIM works. The practical effect is that a walk-up purchase here is a two-minute transaction rather than a form-filling exercise. The source we hold for Prague Airport puts Vodafone and O2 shops in Terminal 2 arrivals and describes the purchase as taking about five minutes, cash or card, no passport scan.

That is worth knowing, but it is not an argument for doing it. A counter SIM at the airport runs around $12 in our data and we do not hold what allowance comes with it, so we cannot compare it per gigabyte against anything below. An eSIM bought before you fly is live when the wheels touch down, at a price you can check in advance.

Everything else about Prague — where you can get a plan, what it costs — is the same as everywhere else in the country. There is no Prague price.

Most EU and EEA arrivals should buy nothing

Roam-like-at-home covers the Czech Republic for anyone on an EU or EEA contract: domestic allowance, domestic price, no purchase. The only figure worth checking before you fly is your plan's fair-use roaming cap, which is usually smaller than your home allowance.

If you are arriving from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia or most of Asia, you are choosing between a travel eSIM and a Czech prepaid SIM, and the no-ID rule means both are realistic here.

What Czech plans cost

Prices are per plan in US dollars with the duration attached. Airalo's rows were read from its own store on 13 August 2026, Nomad's from its own on 17 August 2026 and the Saily row from Saily's own on 18 August 2026.

The Czech market does not stop at 20 GB, and that matters more than it sounds. The verified 50 GB for 30 days at $36 works out at $0.72 a gigabyte — less than half the rate of the 10 GB plan and the cheapest verified gigabyte in the country. Pages that reason only from the small plans get this backwards, because the largest plan is usually the best value per gigabyte. If your stay is a month rather than a weekend, start at the top of the ladder on the Czech Republic hub and work down.

For a two- or three-night Prague break, the small end is fine: 3 GB over 7 days at $5 covers maps, tickets and messaging with room to spare.

The O2 badge is not a network

One row deserves a warning. Airalo sells a 10 GB / 30 day plan for the Czech Republic badged O2 at $16, alongside its Prosím plan of the same size and duration at $15.

O2 Czech Republic is a real, large Czech operator. The badge on that plan is a product name, not a disclosure about which network the eSIM roams onto — Airalo does not publish host networks for any country, and it has not published one here. Treating that badge as a carrier is exactly the mistake that put false network claims on dozens of pages across this site, ours included. We cannot tell you what the extra dollar buys, so we cannot tell you to pay it.

The other providers are not much better. Holafly's own listing names no operator; the T-Mobile and Vodafone pairing this page used to carry against it came from our own data rather than from Holafly, so there is no network claim here on which to choose a plan. Saily does not publish a host network here at all, and neither does Nomad — an earlier version of this page said Nomad's listing named Vodafone and T-Mobile, which was wrong.

In the city itself

The Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and Josefov are all compact and walkable, so most of your data goes on maps, transit and photos rather than heavy use. PID Lítačka handles public transport tickets; Bolt and Uber both operate.

One timing note: the Christmas market from late November through December, and the Easter market in spring, pack Staroměstské náměstí with people. Download your maps and tickets before you walk into a crowd that size — it costs nothing and removes the question.
