First, check whether you need to buy anything
If your everyday SIM comes from an EU or EEA country, roam-like-at-home applies here and your normal allowance works in the Czech Republic at no extra charge. Check your operator's roaming fair-use cap before you fly, then skip the rest of this page. Everyone else is choosing between a local prepaid SIM bought on arrival and a travel eSIM installed before departure.
The local SIM route
Three networks carry the country: T-Mobile Czech Republic, O2 Czech Republic and Vodafone Czech Republic. A tourist SIM costs roughly $12 at the airport, and no ID is required — you buy it and walk out with it working, which is unusual in Europe and genuinely simplifies arrival.
At Prague Airport (PRG) there is a Vodafone store in arrivals selling a tourist data SIM, and an O2 store; eSIM purchases are handled at the Phone & Travel shop. Airport pricing runs 20–30% above the same product in the city, so if you are in Prague for more than a night, walking into a T-Mobile, O2 or Vodafone shop in town is cheaper for the same thing.
On network choice, Vodafone is the one we'd pick: it has 93%+ 5G coverage nationwide and is the operator that bothers to sell tourist-specific data SIMs at the airport. O2 has the best 5G speed in Prague specifically, which matters if you are not leaving the city. T-Mobile is the budget play. National average mobile speed is around 58 Mbps.
The eSIM route, with the per-GB numbers
The Airalo prices below were read from Airalo's own site on 13 August 2026. Airalo sells its main Czech package under the name Prosím, and every row in the table is from it.

The spread is the story: the same provider charges $4.00 per GB at the bottom of its range and $0.72 per GB at the top. Buying the smallest plan is almost always the worst value per gigabyte, even though it is the cheapest receipt.
One thing to watch at checkout. Airalo lists a second Czech package alongside Prosím, badged O2, and it duplicates exactly one plan: 10GB over 30 days at $16.00 against Prosím's $15.00. Both figures are verified. The name matches the Czech operator O2 Czech Republic, but Airalo publishes no host network for any of its products, so treat it as a product name rather than a promise about which network you will attach to — and if you are buying 10GB for a month, the dollar difference is the only thing we can tell you separates them.
Our Saily figures were read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026 and Nomad's off its own on 17 August 2026; only the Holafly figures are indicative rather than read from a live checkout, so treat those as a guide. Saily's $1.99 for 1GB over 7 days is the cheapest single entry price for the country by a distance — half what Airalo charges for a gigabyte over three days — though it is still the worst value per GB in the market. Nomad's 20GB is $20, or $1.00 per GB, which beats Airalo's $24 at that size — an earlier version of this page gave the figure as $22 and could only call it indicative. Nomad is the dearer of the two everywhere else, including at 50GB, where it charges $45 against Airalo's $36. For unlimited plans the two contenders land almost on top of each other at five days — Holafly $19, Airalo $19.50 — but by ten days Airalo's $34 undercuts Holafly's $36.90. Holafly does not support hotspot tethering, which decides it for anyone planning to share a connection with a laptop or a travel companion.

One honest gap: we know the airport tourist SIM costs about $12, but we do not have a verified data allowance for it, so we cannot give you a per-GB figure to set against the eSIM table. If you are buying local for a long stay, ask what the bundle actually contains before you pay.
Where coverage runs out
None of this matters much in Prague, Brno or on the motorways. It matters in the remote Bohemian and Moravian forests, on border mountain trails in Šumava and the Krkonoše, and inside caves and gorges, where signal drops regardless of which SIM you hold. Download offline maps for those days.

Common questions
Do I need my passport to buy a Czech SIM card?
No. The Czech Republic does not require ID registration for prepaid SIMs, so you can buy one at Prague Airport or a city shop and use it immediately. That makes it one of the easier countries in Europe to arrive and buy local.
Is Vodafone or O2 better in Prague?
O2 has the best 5G speed in Prague itself. Vodafone has the wider national picture at 93%+ 5G coverage and sells tourist data SIMs at the airport. If you are staying inside the city, O2; if you are heading out to Bohemia or Moravia, Vodafone.
Is a Czech eSIM cheaper than the airport SIM?
For short trips, yes. A 5GB eSIM at $7 costs well under the roughly $12 airport SIM, and you arrive already connected. For stays of two weeks or more with heavy data use, a local SIM bought in the city — not at the airport, where prices are 20–30% higher — is usually the better buy.
