Santorini Airport SIM cards: a thin option, honestly

What is actually there

One carrier sells in arrivals at Santorini: Cosmote. That is the whole retail picture. The queue runs about fifteen minutes at peak and three off-peak — longer at the top end than Athens or Heraklion, despite being a fraction of the size, because there is one counter absorbing whole planeloads at once.

The kiosk is small, carries limited stock and closes early. We do not hold the closing time, so we cannot tell you whether that means 20:00 or 21:00. What it does mean is that a JTR SIM is not something to count on: the counter can be shut, or open with nothing to sell you, and neither outcome leaves you a second option in the terminal.

No ID is required for a prepaid SIM in Greece, so if you do reach the front the purchase itself is quick. A Greek airport SIM runs about $15 in our data, though we do not hold the allowance behind it. Free wifi is available in the terminal.

That is genuinely all we hold for this airport. There is no second operator, no named shop chain and no published hours, and we would rather say so than pad the page out.

Who should buy nothing at all

If your contract is from an EU or EEA country, Greece is covered by roam-like-at-home and you need nothing here. Check your fair-use roaming cap before you fly and then ignore the counter entirely. Santorini's summer traffic is heavily European, so this covers a large share of the people reading this.

If you are arriving from outside the EU, the answer is still probably not to buy at JTR — but to have bought already.

Buy in Athens, or before you leave home

Most people reach Santorini through Athens or by ferry from Piraeus. A Greek plan covers the whole country, islands included, so there is no reason to arrive on Thira with no data and hope the one kiosk is open. Athens has two operators in arrivals and a ten-minute peak queue, and an eSIM installed at home has neither queue nor opening hours.

Greece runs all the way to a verified 50 GB over 30 days, at $31 from Nomad and $42 from Airalo. The Nomad price is $0.62 a gigabyte, the best rate in the country. For a few days on Santorini you do not need anything like that — 5 GB over 15 days at $11.50 is the sensible size for a short island stay, and it is below the roughly $15 the airport counter would charge. Which network you get

Cosmote is the only carrier selling at JTR, so buying there means buying Cosmote. Among the eSIMs, nothing is confirmed: Airalo publishes no host network for Greece and Meraki Mobile is a product name, not a carrier. Holafly names nothing either.
