Mykonos: the signal is fine, the crowd around you is the problem

Where the island is well covered

Mykonos town — Chora — has excellent signal. The Little Venice waterfront, the windmills and the main streets are all well covered, which is most of where anyone spends their evenings.

The thin spots are the remote windmill viewpoints and some of the northern beaches, Agios Sostis among them, where signal drops. If you are driving a quad or a small car out that way, download the map area first. That is the whole of the coverage story on an island this size, and it is not much of a story.

The real Mykonos problem is capacity

The beach clubs are what makes this island different from anywhere else in Greece for connectivity purposes. Paradise, Super Paradise and Scorpios host international events that draw thousands of people to one stretch of sand at the same time, and during peak summer the congestion at those venues in the mid-afternoon is noticeable. Messages hang. Photo uploads stall. Payment apps time out at the worst moment.

The larger venues are said to run carrier-reinforced antenna installations to cope with the load, though that is not something we have been able to confirm. Either way it is worth understanding what kind of problem this is, because it changes what you should buy. Congestion is not a shortage of data — it is a shortage of airtime on a mast shared with several thousand phones. An unlimited plan does not help. A faster provider does not help. The only things that help are doing your uploading later and having what you need already on the device.

Pre-load the way home

The practical consequence is about getting back. Bolt and the local taxi apps need to be installed, logged in and holding your return address before you arrive at the beach, not summoned from the middle of a crowded club at six in the evening when the network is at its worst and everyone else is trying the same thing. Screenshot your accommodation's location. Agree a pickup point.

This is the single piece of Mykonos-specific advice worth acting on, and it costs nothing.

What to buy for a short stay

Mykonos trips are short — most people give it three to five days, often as one stop in a Cyclades run. Buy accordingly, and do not over-buy.

Airalo's Greek prices were read from its own site on 13 August 2026, so those are the figures we stand behind: 1 GB over 3 days at $4, 3 GB over 3 days at $8.50, 3 GB over 7 days at $9, and 5 GB over 7 days at $11. Saily's 1 GB over 7 days at $4.49 was read from Saily's own site on 16 August 2026 and is verified too — a week of validity for 49 cents more than Airalo's three-day gigabyte, which suits a short Cyclades hop well.

Unlimited is the trap here. Airalo's unlimited three-day plan is $11.50 verified — the same price as its 5 GB over 15 days. On an island where your bad moments are congestion rather than exhaustion of an allowance, paying the unlimited premium buys you nothing you will feel. Take the metered plan and the longer window.

If Mykonos is one hop in a longer Greek trip, ignore the short tiers entirely and buy for the whole itinerary — the country's price ladder improves sharply with size, which the Greece hub sets out in full.

On networks: Airalo does not publish which Greek carrier its plans roam onto anywhere, and "Meraki Mobile" is its own product name rather than an operator. Other providers do list host networks in their own material, none of it confirmed by us.
