Every way to get mobile data in South Korea, priced up

Quality is not the deciding factor here

South Korea is one of the few countries where you can stop worrying about which network you end up on. SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ all run 5G with near-universal urban coverage, and average speeds across the country sit around 80 Mbps. A cheap eSIM riding on KT will not feel meaningfully slower in Seoul than a premium SIM on SKT.

That means the comparison collapses to two questions: what does a gigabyte cost, and how much friction do you want on the day you land.

The local SIM route

A tourist SIM bought at the airport costs around $12. All three carriers sell at Incheon and Gimpo, and KT and SK Telecom run counters selling both physical tourist SIMs and tourist eSIMs, with your passport.

Our country data records the ID rule as no ID required for an instant purchase, but the airport carrier counters are described as taking a passport. Carry it — it costs you nothing and settles the question. GS25 and CU convenience stores are also named as a sales channel in our source material, though we do not have a record of which products they carry or at what price, so treat that as a lead rather than a plan.

The honest limit of this comparison: we know the airport SIM costs roughly $12, but not how much data it includes. Without that, we cannot give you a cost per GB for the local option, and we are not going to guess one.

eSIM prices we have actually checked

These Airalo plans were read from the provider's own site on 13 August 2026.

The shape of that curve matters more than any single row. Buying small in Korea is expensive — the 1GB plan costs four times per gigabyte what the 50GB plan does. If you are anywhere near the middle of the range, buying one size up is usually cheaper than topping up later.

The other five providers

We have not verified these against the providers' own sites, so treat them as indicative rather than checkable:

• Saily — 1GB / 7 days at $3.99, 3GB / 30 days at $8.99, 5GB / 30 days at $10.99, 10GB / 30 days at $18.99, 20GB / 30 days at $29.99, all read off Saily's own site on 18 August 2026. No host network published.
• Nomad — verified: 1GB / 7 days at $4, 3GB / 30 days at $8, 5GB / 30 days at $10, 10GB / 30 days at $18, 20GB / 30 days at $28, 50GB / 30 days at $39, and unlimited from $11 for 3 days to $33 for 10. No host network published.
• eSIM Go — not on sale. Our data holds 3GB / 30 days at $9 and 10GB / 30 days at $17, and once listed them on KT, but eSIM Go sells wholesale to resellers and publishes no consumer price — checked on esim-go.com on 18 August 2026, where there is no basket, no checkout and no per-country page — so its rows cannot be bought or ever verified. • eSIMCard — no price. Its rows were withdrawn on 18 August 2026 after we read its site and found ours wrong; see our eSIMCard page.
• Holafly — unlimited only, in six lengths: $12.50 for 3 days, $20.50 for 5, $27.50 for 7, $36.50 for 10, $50.50 for 15 and $73.90 for 30, all read off its own site on 18 August 2026. No host network published. This line used to show a $5.90 day pass and a $22.90 five-day plan on LG U+; there is no day pass, the five-day price was wrong, and Holafly names no carrier in any country.

At 10GB the field converges hard: $18 to $19 across Nomad, Saily and Airalo. What separates them is the validity window. Airalo's $18 gives you 7 days; the others give 30 for roughly the same money. If your trip is longer than a week, that is the row to look at. Below and above 10GB the field spreads out again, and Nomad's verified ladder undercuts Airalo's at every rung.

Unlimited plans, and the hotspot catch

Airalo's verified unlimited tiers run $12 for 3 days, $20 for 5, $29 for 7, $35 for 10, $49 for 15 and $69 for 30. Holafly's indicative 5-day unlimited is $22.90, slightly above Airalo's $20 for the same window.

One practical difference our source material flags: Holafly does not offer hotspot tethering. If you plan to work off a laptop or share a connection with a travel partner, that rules it out regardless of price.

The verdict

Trips under a week, moderate use. Take the eSIM. Airalo's 5GB / 7 days at $10 undercuts the $12 airport SIM and you arrive already connected.

Two weeks or more, heavy use. The eSIM still holds up. At $0.98 per GB for 50GB over 30 days, a travel eSIM is doing something a $12 starter pack would have to include a great deal of data to beat.

Hiking or island-hopping. Coverage gaps in Korea are narrow but real: high mountain trail sections above 1,500m, remote islands off the mainland, and a few dead zones on older subway lines. SK Telecom has the highest coverage score, so if you are heading well off the tourist track, an SKT-hosted plan or a local SKT SIM is the safer pick.
