Goa: the part of India where wifi does most of the work

Buy less than you think

Most city pages talk you into a bigger plan. Goa is the opposite case. Beach cafes have wifi as standard, the pace of a day here is slow, and most of what a visitor needs is handled locally rather than through an app. You spend fewer hours on mobile data in Goa than you would in Delhi or Mumbai doing the same amount of sightseeing.

That is the single most useful thing to know about connectivity here, and it is worth acting on: a small plan plus a bit of patience with cafe wifi is a perfectly rational choice.

North and south are not the same

North Goa — Baga, Calangute, Anjuna — has good Airtel and Jio signal throughout. If your trip is the northern beach strip, coverage is a non-issue.

South Goa is a little more variable. Palolem and Agonda have good signal in town, but some of the remoter beach areas drop out. The interior of the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary has limited coverage, which is the one place worth downloading maps for in advance.

None of this is severe. It is the difference between never thinking about signal and occasionally walking a hundred metres back towards the road.

Panjim and Assagao, if you are working

Goa's remote-work scene centres on Panjim and Assagao, where most cafes and coworking spaces run fast wifi. As in Chiang Mai, that pushes your mobile plan down rather than up — the fibre does the heavy lifting and the eSIM covers the scooter ride between places.

Getting around

Ola and Uber operate throughout North Goa, and Goa's most-visited beaches realistically need either ride-hailing or a local auto-rickshaw. Both benefit from having a fare on the screen before the conversation starts. Book from wherever you have signal rather than assuming you can hail one from a quiet stretch of sand.

What it costs

India is an expensive market for travel eSIMs relative to how cheap Indian domestic data is. These Airalo prices were read from the provider's own site on 13 August 2026:

The ladder stops at 20 GB, which is also the cheapest gigabyte at $1.90, under half the starter rate. But Goa is the Indian destination where you are least likely to need the top of that ladder. For a week of beaches with cafe wifi filling in, 3 GB at $9.50 is usually enough. Cheaper entry points exist. Saily's 1 GB over 7 days at $3.99 was read from Saily's own site on 16 August 2026 and is the cheapest verified way in.

On networks: Airalo publishes no host network for India, and sells its plan under the product name Indicomm, which is a retail label and not a carrier. Saily names none either, offering a connection from India's best networks without identifying them. Nomad and Holafly name none either. eSIMCard lists Airtel and Jio in its own materials, and that has not been confirmed by us. Since North Goa has good signal on both major networks anyway, it is not a distinction to buy on.

A local SIM is about $7 at the airport in our data, from Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL, with a passport and ID required to register. For a long Goa stay that is the cheaper route by a wide margin. For a week on the beach, an eSIM avoids the paperwork for a small premium.
