SIM cards at Manohar International, Goa (GOX): the shortest queue in India, and still not the best option

The queue here is the mildest in India

Our record for Manohar International lists Airtel and Jio in arrivals, with a 15-minute wait at peak and 5 minutes off-peak. Set against Delhi's 45 minutes at peak, that is a comfortable arrival. If you were going to buy an Indian SIM at any airport, this is a reasonable one to do it at.

One thing to be clear about first: Goa is served by two airports, and this page is about GOX, the Manohar International site. We hold no counter data, queue times or carrier list for Dabolim, and we are not going to assume the two work the same way. Check which airport your flight actually lands at before you plan around any of this.

What the counter still asks of you

A passport is required for SIM registration at GOX, as it is everywhere in India. That is the country's KYC regime rather than an airport policy: identity documents are collected and processed before a prepaid line carries data. The queue length tells you how long you wait to be served, not how long until your phone works.

We hold no activation-time figure for Goa. Our Delhi record notes activation delays of 2 to 24 hours there, but we are not going to transfer that number to a different airport on the other side of the country. What we can say is that the process is the same national one, and that it is not instantaneous anywhere.

We also hold no opening hours for the counters and nothing on where in arrivals they stand. Charter and late-night traffic is a real feature of Goa's schedule, so if you land in the small hours, do not build your evening around finding a staffed desk.

The transfer is the actual argument

Most people arriving at GOX are going to a beach, and the beaches are not at the airport. Our notes make the practical point directly: an eSIM means Uber is working when you walk out, for the hotel transfer. Booking a ride through an app, with a fixed price and a driver who already has the address, is a materially better arrival than negotiating one at the kerb — and it needs data in the fifteen minutes before you would otherwise have any.

That is the case for arriving connected in Goa. It is not really a price argument.

What it costs

Our country record puts a typical Indian airport SIM at around $7, which is cheap — India has some of the lowest mobile data prices anywhere. Travel eSIMs do not match it. These prices were read from the sellers' own Indian checkouts, Airalo's on 13 August 2026 and Saily's on 16 August:

India's ladder really does stop at 20 GB. No provider we hold sells a larger capped plan, and the cheapest gigabyte in the country is $1.90 at the very top of that ladder — $1.82 if a 15-day window suits, on the same Airalo 20 GB allowance at $36.50. For most beach holidays that is irrelevant — a fortnight of maps, WhatsApp and a few evenings of streaming sits comfortably inside 5 or 10 GB.

For a long winter season in Goa, the maths genuinely favours a local SIM: the counter price is a fraction of the eSIM price per gigabyte, and if you are here for months, one afternoon of paperwork in a town shop is a good trade.

Networks

Airalo publishes no host network for India and sells its Indian plan under the product name Indicomm, which is a checkout label rather than a carrier. Saily does not name one either, promising a connection from India's best networks and leaving it there. Nomad and Holafly do not name one either, here or in any country they sell in. eSIMCard is the only one of the six sellers that publishes a host network at all — we read that directly on its Japan page — but the Airtel and Jio pair our own data carried for it here came from this site's generated text rather than from eSIMCard, so we no longer repeat it. If you want a specific network, the counters at GOX are the only place to choose one.
